How much does it cost to be a Domain Reseller? Do I have to make a big investment?

No, not at all. We normally charge $4.99 to set up a Reseller Account, but for a limited time we are offering FREE Reseller Accounts. That's right, for a limited time we will not charge to set up the Reseller Account for you. Once your account is set up, just specify your settings and prices and you're ready to start selling. There is nothing else you are required to buy, no minimum sales requirement, no monthly or maintenance fees. Even if you don't sell any domains for 6 months, or even longer, there's still nothing else you have to pay.

How does the domain purchase process work? How is the money transaction handled? Do I need my own Credit Card Merchant Account?

There are two primary methods that you would use to sell domains:

1. You can use the easily customizable website and credit card processing feature that are included with your Reseller Account. In this case your customer orders directly from this website and provides their credit card number for payment. The Primary Domain Registrar (for whom you are a reseller) would handle the entire transaction, including collecting the payment. You would not be actively involved in the transaction and you would not need your own credit card merchant account.


2. You can use your own web interface or API for selling domains. In this case you effectively pre-purchase a package of domains to resell using whatever means you choose. For each domain you sell you essentially purchase the domain from your account and then sell it to your customer. Typically, you would use your own credit card merchant account for collecting payment. However, how you collect money from your customers is entirely up to you.

How much money can I make? How is my profit determined? What about credit card processing fees?

The amount of money you make depends on how many domains you sell and the price you set. In each of the two Sales Methods described in the previous section you are subject to credit card processing fees. In Method 1, you are charged 95 cents plus 3% of the sales price. In Method 2, the fees are determined by your credit card processor. Examples of these fees are: 30 cents + 3% of sales price; 75 cents + 2.3% of sales price; 10% of sales price.

To illustrate your profit, consider the folowing example where you sell a .com domain for $14.95:

Using Sales Method 1:
     Processing fee is .95 + 3% of 14.95 = .95 + .45 = 1.40.
     Your domain cost is 9.49
     Your total cost (domain cost + fee) = 9.49 + 1.40 = 10.89
     Your profit is 14.95 - 10.89 = 4.06

Using Sales Method 2:
     Your domain cost is 9.49
     Your profit is 14.95 - 9.49 = $5.46, less your credit card processing fee.
     If your credit card processing fee is 75 cents + 2.3% of the sales price, the fee
        would be 1.10 leaving a profit of 4.36.

It looks like I could make more money with Method 2. Why would I want to use Method 1?

Each method has its advantages over the other.

Method 1 gives you an easy to customize website and ability to use the registrar's credit card processing feature, plus you don't have to lay out any additional money to prepurchase domains. In fact, after paying the initial setup fee, you can sell domains without laying out another penny.

With Method 2 there is more work involved with developing or integrating an API (the interface for handling the domain registration) with your website. You also have to acquire your own credit card merchant account (or other method of collecting money from your customers) and those often have setup or application fees associated with them. Additionally, you have to prefill your account with funds ($100 at a time) to use for purchasing the domains you sell.

So Method 1 takes very little time and effort, no additional outlay of money, but would typically yield a smaller profit. Method 2 takes more time, effort, and investment but gives you more control over the registration interface and potentially more profit. The method you choose depends on how many domains you expect to sell and how much effort and investment you can put into it. You could always start with one method and then switch to the other one after you get a feel for how your business is progressing.

Can I buy domains for myself at the 9.49 wholesale price?

Yes, but to do so you must buy them directly from your Reseller Account. This requires you to prefill your account with funds ($100 at a time) to be used for purchasing these domains. If you use Sales Method 2 then the money you put into your account for selling domains can also be used for purchasing domains for yourself. To buy a domain for yourself, you register the domain directly from your account and the fee is deducted from your account balance.

What if I can't invest $100 at a time?

No big problem. For reselling domains, just use Sales Method 1 described above. This Sales Method requires no additional investment on your part.

To buy domains for yourself at the wholesale price, you have two choices:

1. You can register your domains through us (Click Here) at the wholesale pricing.


2. If you are going to have several domains or want to do bulk registration, it would be easier to get a Retail Account. With the Retail Account it is very easy to register and manage as many domains as you want. There is no need to pre-fill your account, you just pay the wholesale price for each domain as you register it (pay as you go). Every domain registered with the Retail Account comes with the same special features described above for domains registered through a Reseller Account. You just don't have the reseller functions with a Retail Account nor can you create sub-accounts with a Retail Account. We normally charge $4.99 to set up a Retail Account, but for a limited time we will set up a Retail Account for you for FREE.

What are the risks?

Frankly, we don't know of any. If you want to take a stab at selling domains, this is a great opportunity. And who knows? You could have great success and sell thousands of domains and make thousands of dollars!
